Um your in tough shape I am afraid.. I am getting in at 8 PM to see this..
The poor running with what you say now shows a few bad things may, I said may have occured.
What is the oil level in the engine? What does the oil look like?
If you blew a head gasket and most of the coolant in now in the block, that might explain some of the poor running... having 8 quarts of mung will cause the engine to run BAD..
If you lost all the coolant in the road, then cooked the engine, and then that blew the head gasket so only the cooling system is slimed now, you may still have problems like a warped head and scored clyinders and pistons..
Either of these problems I am afraid is bad when you are away from home and bad at any time...
I am in New Hampshire, and so I can't help you much.... I can tell you I blew the tranny on my plow truck 2 weeks ago if that helps some how.. That my wife and I have been laid off, and the timing was poor... That I just retored my old 85 245 and the Alt decided to die thankfully afterwe made it home from western NY on turkeyday... and that it was no fun doing what has been done in the snow so far. I bet you feel better already... That is not the half of what has gone wrong, but I can't go there all the way, as I am just boostin you up!
I think if I were you I would fly home and get the car in a shop, and just get it fixed.. or forget about it, and move on... Fixing it would be my option, but I don't know that area...
It appears as you will either need a different engine, or to rebuild the one you have to some point... truely bad news I know....
it is the rough running that concerns me now... Why is that? Is it contaminated combustion chambers? is it scored clyinders? is it over full crank case?
What about the radiator? Is that trash as they are far from cheap? I can't see to answer these questions. You need those answers... Mac
