(Assuming you have a mechanical speedo) If the speedometer quit, then it's either a snapped cable or bad speedo gear in the transmission.

Unscrew the speedo cable where it enters into the instrument cluster at the back. With it loose so that you can feel the square head of the cable, drive the car and feel if the cable is turning. If it turns you've have a problem in the instrument cluster speedo.

If it didn't turn, pull on the cable end. If only a section comes out then you know you've got a snapped cable. If the full length comes out or you aren't able to remove it then it's probably your speedo drive gear in the trans.

Drive gear pulls out after removing allen-socket-head bolt at transmission.
