Which to sell, which to keep? 700 1988

In Memphis, how much do you need AC?

I talked to a truck AC dealer and he gave me serious doubts about keping an old Volvo cool. I had our '90 745 GL upgraded to new refrigerant, and it only lasted one year! In my discussion with the truck guy, he told me that a brand new hose with factory fittings is apt to leak the new refrigerant as the molecules are so much smaller than the old stuff.

We sold our '88 745 GLE because a wiring problem that I had caused me caution.

I had a headlight that would not work. I found that it was unplugged, which was strange as I had just gotten an inspection sticker. I tried a new bulb to no avail. (I figured that the inspector had done the same, and then lost his train of thought or did not have time to fix the problem.) I put a meter on the connector and found 12 volts, but no curent to speak of. I replaced the connector with no luck, but found the wires to be quite black inside when I soldered the splice. I took about 3 feet of wire and the connector out of a junk car, that fixed the problem.

When I took the old wiring apart, I found that most of it had tarnished away!

I know that you have not had the 745 too long, but your travails with it just might be fate.

I'd sell the 745 and look for a newer clean RWD turbo wagon. (I'm looking for one right now.) Getting one with an automatic transmission would not be the end of the world - even F1 cars have automatics now.

BTW - It is possible to buy a compact, roof mount, 12 volt AC unit. I was going to drop it in the sunroof hole of our 745 TI. Unfortunately it cost $3000. If the AC in our 855R goes again, I just might buy one!
