Replacing Hall Sender in Bosch Distributor 200 1987

Trying to replace the Hall sender in the above distributor. Distributor is out of the car, on the workbench. New sender is in hand. Looking at the Bently manual for replacing the sender and on page 280-14, fig. 30 it shows that you have to remove the trigger wheel circlip to get to the Hall sender. I'm stumped - I don't see any splits or anything else to be able to spread said circlip to remove it. Anybody done this and "broken the code"? Any insight would be greatly appreciated.
TIA,
Randy
