Still not fixed! Help! 700

Check your throttle position switch, and clean the throttle body if it's dirty. With the throttle body open, you ought to be able to hear the switch click at the closed position. The switch may need adjustment, or the actuating rod for it might, and excess varnish and gunk in the throttle can impede closing too. A can of carb cleaner and a $1 throttle body gasket is all that may be needed.

PS- don't think this is your problem, but just yesterday found that our switch was actually unplugged on our 88 740. Seemed to idle in traffic just fine, believe it or not, but I don't know why. It's definitely happier with it hooked up.
