Can a rear axle be identified if the attached number label is ruined? 700 1990

My pinion seal needs replacing and from reading FAQ it says to locate the axle ID number on a label attached to rear axle. I found the label but cannot read anything on it. I don't suppose the axle can be ID'd from some other source, eh? Regards,
