Removal of old radio/casette and installation of cd player 200

Hi Guys,
I am planning to remove the old radio/tape player in my 200 series and replace it with an Alpine CD player sometime soon (1982 242 with 75 amp alternator). Can you advise me on a few points?

First, are there any tips or steps that I should keep in mind when removing the old radio/tape deck? (I will disconnect the battery and check the Haynes and Bently manuals again -- they don't appear to have a lot to say).

Second, are there points that I should keep in mind if I am going to try to install the cd player with --- probably something like an aftermarket wiring harness and faceplate?

Third, should I consider replacing the existing front door speaker wire with a heavier guage or newer wire? I have not checked closely but they appear to be in pretty good shape (no rust or corrosion evident).

I'll come back for advice on tips for the installation and wiring for the rear shelf speakers once I get this job completed. Thanks!

Dave
