Paint recommendations 200 1993

I have a 1993 240 Wagon with less than 70,000 miles. The paint (original) on it has developed these circular patches where the top coat of paint is gone. They range from pin size to quarter size and are mostly on the roof, but also in some other spots. I need to sell the car, and the engine and interior are in very good condition. But I think the paint will seriously bring the value down. Is it worth it to have it painted before I sell it? Is there anything I can do short of painting to help it look better? Any idea what might have caused it? I rarely waxed it, and I'm the original owner so I only have myself to blame, but I've never had a car's paint deteriorate this way. Usually it was just major fading problems. Thanks for your help.

P.S. Any idea as to a good price range for it? It has no problems that I know of and I've maintained it well (the engine at least).
