When did 240's get clear coat paint?? 200

I just waxed my new to me 1991 240 DL and discovered it has no clear coat. I thought they had clear coat by then. Anyone know when they went to clear coat, or has this car been repainted?

Also, does anybody know if Meguiar's Gold Class for Clear Coats will harm non-clear coated finishes? I used it on this car and got alot of oxidation on the cloth, but overall it appeared to do a good job. I'm going to have to find a nice wax for non-clear coats that is easier on the paint.
