Unable to Ground Alternator. Help! 200 1980

I'm trying to replace my alternator. The new alternator registers only 13.8 Volts on testing before install, but I couldn't find another alternator. I installed the alternator, but couldn't find the 8 mm nut/screw to install the negative/ground lead, ie the old alternator had a screw sticking out of the back toward the engine side of the alternator that held the negative lead. I screwed the negative lead to the voltage regulator, but the alternator does not charge the battery. Help!
