stuck trunk latch 700 1989

I can't get the trunk on my '89 744 open -- the latch will only depress about half-way. The key seems to turn fine in the lock, but no matter the position, I still can't push the latch in hard enough to release the trunk.

I won't be able to reach in through the ski port because I have a subwoofer box blocking it inside the trunk. If I drill out the lock cylinder, will it release the catch, or is there a better way to get the trunk open?

Ben
