Was just about done with replacing the exhaust flange gasket for my 264GL beacuse of the leaking exhaust (sounded like a rice-eater) when I noticed some more exhaust noise coming from the inlet pipe to the rear muffler. I looked around and noticed that the pipe was rusted from the inside out and was breaking a part. I moved it the slightest bit and bam, the inlet pipe seperated right at the muffler. So being that it was late at night and I had to get going I took off the rear muffler and that was that. Just then my wife came home and asked "What's that honey?" hence the title to my post. Enough about my boaring life I will get to my question.
What do you guys & gals recommend. Going to a shop and having them put in some generic muffler or taking one out of the boneyard and have them (or myself) put it in? I wonder if there is any differece in quality from the mufflers found at the muffler shops to the OEM mufflers found at the dealer (or if I'm lucky a junked 240/260). I would like to keep everything stock including the low noise that I'm used when driving the 264 around town. I'm tired of RICE-EATERS reving their engines at me when I'm at the light because of my loud exhaust. Come to think of it it is kind of funny; They paid $100+ bucks for that sound and I paid nothing, I just had to wait 24 years for the muffler to rust off (and I must say that muffler alone lasted longer than ANY rice-eater). Thanks to all in advance for their time.
Sincerely,
