740 Turbo engine smoke 700 1989

Guys,

I am driving 740Turbo 1989 Australian spec - really nice car.
Lots of umf ...;-)
Recently I noticed that the engine smokes. It smokes occasionally while I am waiting on traffic light, or so. Smoke going out the exaust for about a minute and then stops.
Is there an easy way to find if the turbo has worn bushes (turbo rebuild), or the engine has worn oil rings (very expesive repair).
Even with smoke the engine has power.

Thanks in advance. Any comment will be appreciated.

Steven
