How should I clean the Mass Airflow Sensor, or Throttle Body? 200

Hi, all.
What is the proper way to clean my mass air flow sensor -- that cylinder with the wire harness attached, before it leads into the intake manifold (btw, is that the same as the "throttle body"?).
I've heard that doing it wrong can destroy the little wire inside, or other parts, so I certainly want to do it correctly, and use the right cleaner. And what kind of product should I use (brand recommendations are welcome :-).
I'm planning this cleaning, right now, for both a '84 240 (B23 engine), and also a '93 240 (B230) engine.
In advance, thanks for the advice.
Ken C.
