Phantom oil loss ?? 900 1996

I have recently bought a 1996 960 with 145K miles. The car has a vanishing oil problem. It is not leaking onto the ground, not mixing with coolant, no evidence at the tail pipe and has passed Maryland emissions tests. Consumption on a recent trip (avg 75mph) used one quart in 1000 miles. Consumption for normal mixed driving seems to be less. Any ideas out there? Thanks. Ed
