Speedometer on 91 740 700 1991

hi everyone. i have a 91 749 estate with 139k miles. the speedometer works sometimes. somedays it will work fine and others it just dosent move. sometimes it starts when the car is running and is inacurite for the first few seconds then it goes back to normal. i have replaced the speed sensor on the back differental and the problem contenues. today i got another cluster from a 91 with a 140k and the problem is the same except this one only works for the first few seconds when the car moves then dies out compleatley. does anyone out there know what the problem might be, or if i just got another bad cluster? thanks to everyone
