another rear seal oil leak.....but I smell it too at stops 200

So in the past few months my car has started to lose a bit of oil, I believe out of the rear seal. It lost about 1/2 a quart over a month and a half or two months....nothing to freak out over, but a noticable amount. The odd thing is, I've noticed that when I'm at a stop, idling, I can smell oil faintly. As soon as I'm moving the smell is gone. I know my rear seal has a slight leak(I can see it collect and drip on the bellhousing when the car's running), but I don't see how this would make me smell oil. anyone have a clue? I'm surely not going to replace the seal before summer, if even then. I just want to figure it out...oh, my PCV system is fine....thanks for any help!
