Brighter headlights 200 1989

Because the headlight lenses are beginning to show their age,I just purchased some brighter halogen bulbs for the car. My old eyes need all the light at night I can get! These are not the High Intensity type that IPD sells( because it looked as if those required a new wiring harness.) These are Sylvania "Star" bulbs. Advertised as being one step above the "Cool Blue" type bulb and giving off a very white, intense (but street legal) light for increased visability.
How much of this is hype, and how much is fact; not necessarily this particular bulb but the "upgrade" halogen bulbs in general.Anyone have experience with after market headlamp upgrades. Would be interested in your thoughts on the matter.
Thanks
