Glove box locked itself 200

Greetings,

my '81 245 glovebox locked itself. I had a passenger in the car who closed it and now it won't open. The previous owner didn't have the key. I'm not sure if it has locked itself or if the mechanism is loose or turning inside causing the unlatching mechanism not to engage.

Has this happened to any of you?

Short of taking it to a locksmith do any of you have any ideas/tricks on how to open it?
