'89 wiring harness in an '86? 700 1986

I noticed recently that the insulation is crumbling from the wiring that goes into the rear of the hood, into the wipers.

I have not had a chance to investigate further, but I have a bad feeling that the car (1986 740 turbo) is suffering from dreaded wiring harness rot.

I plan on replacing the wiring harness subject to further inspection, but is there a stop-gap measure I can take to protect the exposed wires that I found?

Also, does anyone know if a wiring harness from a 1989 740 turbo will work in an '86?

Thanks in advance.

Joe
