low idle intermittent check engine light 700 1989

My beast is starting fine, idles about 1200 rpm for a minute then drops to normal then after a 3-5 km drive the idle drops to 4-500 and the check engine light comes on - this lasts for a minute or so and then it goes out and the idle stabelises (sp?) of course the check engine light doesn't stay on long enough for me to get a code out of it. In the last 8000 km it has new plugs wires, cap, rotor, amm & hose and runs fine other than this glitch, any ideas ? It has started as the weather warmed up to about -15 from -25 ish
