wiring a new stereo deck in 740 GLE (1988) 700

I just bought a JVC cd deck for my brick... I pulled out the factory deck to reveal that the wiring is somewhat different from the retail decks. The biggest problem is the round adapter that plugs into the back of the factory deck... I am assuming that this is the speaker connection (possibly going to a factory amp?) If this is so, can I just cut off the plug and splice the wires into the new deck?

Any help appreciated.
