Dead-icated wagon 900 1994

Dear DanR,

Good p.m. I know nothing of 960 engines, never having owned one. Your comment about carbon build-ups grabbed my attention.

Those can happen with any engine, and will happen over time. Gasoline is a witch's brew of hydrocarbons, including paraffins and other materials that "plate out" on fuel system components. These accumulate and need to be removed. Gasolines have detergents to do this, but the amount of detergent per gallon may not be enough to remove all of the "crud" in that gallon.

So, every 1,500 miles, I put a bottle of Techron in the gas tank, before fuelling.

Techron is a fuel detergent concentrate. It contains the same detergents as are in gasoline.

It will scrub carbon from injectors, valve seats/stems, etc.

I used it diligently in a 85 240GL with 198K. The injectors, fuel distributor, cold start regulator are all original.

There are other products similar to Techron, that may be as good, or better.

I'd be glad to know of them. Until I do, I'll stick with Techron.

If there is some reason why it - and similar products - should not be used in a 960 engine, I'd like to learn of it, so that I don't lead someone to use Techron, when it will damage their engine.

Thanks for your help. I'm much obliged.

Yours faithfully,

spook
