Transmission pump? 900 1995

940 Non-turbo

In the midst of tracing an electrical fault, which I've posted previously and working on the advice of gurus, I notice a discernible whinning sound that is transmitted via the automatic transmission pipe going into the radiator.

It comes on and off quite consistently at interval of about 2 seconds, like it is triggered on and off.

I came to know that it could be the automatic transmission pump. If it is, is this a job for the mechanic or can a novice handle it? If it is not the pump, please share your experience and know how.

Thanks

Laozong
