Issue #1:
Well, looks (sounds) like I've got a hungry transmission... that being, I *think* its eating one or more syncro rings... Sorta sounds like...um... a rock mixed in with the coffee beans in the grinder. Though fairly inconsistant. Most prominent in 2nd and 4th gears. Sometimes it shows up quietly in 1st and neutral. Never in 3rd. Sometimes it'll go for miles without making a sound. Sometimes I have to turn the radio up. Does that sound perhaps consistant with a syncro ring being chowed?
The main reason (besides the inconsistancy) that I'm thinking that is its also taken to not allowing a 2-3 upshift. 4-3 down is fine, so I have to go from second to fourth then down to 3rd.... Though I havn't had the chance yet to drain the fluid and see what color the sparklies are.
Or could the problem be serious enough to strand me? Main concert is that I'm planning a short (200 mile round) trip next week, and I'm not sure if I'll be able to get the wheel cylinder in the 122 fixed by then.
Issue #2:
We all know about the noisy M400/M410. I've heard here somewhere about curing that problem by replacing bushings with bearings or something... but couldn't find any specifics. Anyone know exactly which bushings get replaced with exactly what sort of bearings? I'm all out of M41s, but I do have a M410 suited for a B20, but I'd like to try to keep it quiet if I make such a change...
Issue #3:
Will my known to be good J-type OD unit off the M41 fit right onto the M410 (also J-type of course) I've got? that is, same output shafts and the like?
Thanks!
