Dash light stays on 200 1987

I have an '87 240 DL sedan. I just replaced the entire driver's side tail light assemby and the orange "Tail light failure" indicator on the dash stays on. All of the rear lights, ie, brake, running, backup, fog lights, turn signal work, or as far as I can tell they work, but the dash ligh stays on. Before I replace the assembly, the dash light was not on. The complete assembly is a "Volvo" part ($130) not aftermarket. Any suggestions on what may be causing the dash light to stay on, and any ideas how to resolve it are appreciated.

Thanks,
