M41/OD install and shifter choice. 120-130

When I install an M41/OD into my ’68 122 I will have a choice of shifters.
Of course with the P1800 shifter tunnel surgery will be required, but I will be keeping the M41 w/P1800 shifter as a unit and will have a short throw shifter and the extra space in front of the new shifter location. Will stock 122 seats be any kind of an obstruction with this arrangement? And how would I later take out the tranny (if I have a new tunnel welded in) since the P1800 shifter is not removable and one must extract the tranny backwards the length of the spline?
Would a “left over” M40 with a P1800 shifter work and/or be worth anything, if I decide to go the “change the lids and switches” route?
Actually I like both set ups, so maybe I could have both shifters. Has anyone ever done THAT? Just kidding, of course.
