clutch cable adjustment 900 1987

I recently replaced my clutch cable after the original broke (one block from my house, pushed her home) at 150k. I have adjusted it for the specified freeplay at the lever and the clutch appears to be working fine but the pedal now does not return all the way to the end of its travel-it stops about an inch or so short of being level with the brake pedal. The clutch does seem to release closer to the floor than it used to-should I loosen the cable? I can't feel any free play at the pedal if I look for it there. Any advice?
