ventilation grill: gadget or useful? 700

I would like to have the opinion of those of you who have installed a plastic grill on the ventilation intake (between windshield and hood). It is known that 740s often have water leaks thru this ventilation (cf. advice to buy 700/900) and a plastic grill/cover (as those for sale eg by volvoworld and others) seems a good idea at least to reduce the quantity of water coming down the windshield.
Is it worth investing $70 plus shippg in this item for somebody like me who just bought a 745T with 200k and want to bring it to 300k with dry feet, or is this just another gadget? Thanks
