When starting, hot or cold, my engine turns over then slowly builds revs till it's idling. All my other FI vehicles turn over for a second and instantly fire off.
Yesterday I posted asking if my '88 745t's fuel pump should run with the key in the ON position before startup to pressurize the system. Answer, confirmed by FAQ, is no.
As the FAQ describes, on my system, the fuel pump relay energizes when the engine turns over and if the engine doesn't start, the pump runs on for a second or two. What I did yesterday when leaving work and this morning on first start, was bump the key to turn the engine over then release it before it started and I heard the pumps run each time. I did this twice and the third time started the engine. It fired immediately started as I think it should, running at a strong idle with no "ramp up" of rpm.
Ok, I haven't measure my fuel pressure at the rail, but where is the checkvalve that's supposed to hold pressure in the system when the pumps and engine are off?
Of course, once I fix this I'll discover a marginal injector that bleeds fuel into the manifold. ;^)
