240 engine vibration 200

My '84 240 turbo, 275k, transmits a lot of engine vibration to the car. To the point where anything above 3500 rpm is unbearable. I suspect motor mounts, but I wonder about the exhaust/turbo bracket to block. I had it apart quite a while ago when I changed the head, and fear I may have left a spacer out, or something.
I checked fan clearance in the shroud and I have about a fingers' thickness at the bottom, and nearly two fingers' at the top. I can probably change the mounts, unless there are some strange problems in doing so.
Thanks for the advice.
