Quick question...is this freezing cold weather my 240 wagon has had a small problem with the kickdown cable sticking. If I am driving at 60mph and the car does this -- what is the best way to stop the car? Turn the car off? Shift into neutral and use the brakes?

any ideas?

Last time I just used the brakes and was gogin uphill..so the car eventually kicked into lower gears.
