This is NOT the first Geo Metro - related post on the Brickboard.
On Jan 5, 2000 my daughter Esther was driving a Geo Metro to work and was
hit headon by a Ford Explorer, both doing about 50 mph. In her case the accident was not avoidable as the Explorer suddenly pulled into her lane and hit her. It took them an hour and a half to get her out of the car, including jacking the dashboard off her crushed leg, removing the roof and holding her head up so she didn't drown in what little blood remained in her system. She received 11 units of blood within the first few hours of getting to the hospital and was in the shock trauma intensive care unit for 40 days, of which she was in a coma more than half.
The impact was great enough that the Explorer's roof was buckled. The driver of the Explorer was somewhat shaken up but apparently not injured. As a retired judge, he was fined $50 for driving in the wrong lane.
Esther is doing well now, other than being in constant pain and having one leg an inch shorter. She won't get in another Geo Metro, though, and neither will I.
My advice to you is to get away from that deathtrap before it kills one of you! You never know when some idiot is going to do something really stupid and sometimes defensive or evasive driving is just not possible.
