Glovebox latch solution? 200 1990

Some archive postings point to gluing a thicker strip of plastic to the latch area of the glovebox roof as the best solution to keep the door from popping open. How does the Volvo design of the lock and bracket on the 1993 model year work? (Bracket riveted to the glovebox roof, & lock housing with the duckbill on the back to seat in the bracket)

If this successfully keeps the door shut, can I retrofit my 1990 240 with the bracket and lock?
