I would guess that you have nt heretofore removed an armrest, right?
Removal will explain just what you have there.
First remove the decorative hole pluggers. There are two. Small flat tip. carefully.
Second remove the screws, large phillips. There is a screw at the bottom of each hole, and, if you have power windows, one at the very front of the bottom and not hidden. An electric screwdriver with a long bit is really handy for this.
With power windows, now slip loose the control panel. Pry it carefully straight towards the door while you gently pull the arm rest away from the door.
With the switches clear, or without power windows, the next step is the last step.
Use both hands, treat the arm rest as if it is pivoting around a pin in the upper part of the armrest - the pin you saw pulled out. Rotate the arm rest from its 3 0'clock position up to the 11 or 12 0'clock position. At that point the upper pivot pin should easily come out of the trim panel.
You will see that the pin has two pieces out the sides, rather like squared off fins. They slip into slots in the trim panel, and rotating the arm rest locks that pin into place.
You may have damage to the trim panel. Inspect it, and the arm rest, carefully.
Never have I had to repair this attaching system, so I'm not much help for that. With luck, another brickster will have info on that.
Good Luck,
Bob

PS. There is a cosmetic change in the GL trim panels after 1985. The old will fit the new, but not look quite the same. Dunno about the DL type.
