Why do volvos have a metal gas return line? TO RUST THROUGH! 200

Hah, so I think I'm going to be crafty and beat my gas leak over the weekend, but no such luck. I have 10 inches of nice rubber high-pressure line and all the connectors and hose clamps I need. So when I clear away the snow and much from the area of the leak, I discover that it's the METAL return line that's leaking! what the crap? Apparently it rusted through at some unseen point and is now leaking slowly. I don't have any good ideas on this so I'm going to take it into a Euro import shop to get fixed. i was adding up: really cold + lots of snow + rusty stuff + gasoline everywhere = suck. My question is--should I have the shop replace it with rubber line? I somehow think that'll be cheaper (though I could be wrong) and it won't rust through. Any problems here? On a brighter note, I fixed my oil leak problem after I unfroze my hood latch cable by simply putting on a new flame trap....the old one had apparently fallen out of the hose that it fits into, so there was an oily mess there, but it's ok now. And if anyone cares to know how to hook up a digital Sigma BC1200 bicycle computer to a Volvo, just ask. For 30 bucks and only moderate effort, you can have a computer that gives: digital readout, wheel-size progammable to the mm, average speed, overall odo, and all kinds of other stuff. It's cheaper than a new odometer gear (mine's broke in the electronics anyways) and super accurate. welp, have a good day all, and again I ask: why did volvo decide to use RUSTABLE metal line for their gas return line? dumb
