Holy hiccups and sputters! Moisture related? (soggy or 'car wash days') 700 1986

Hi All,

We are fighting an intermittent hard/no start and very rough acceleration problem.

Runs and starts perfect 95% of the time (even at -30 C), but I just washed it today (-15 C, had to be done sometime ;>) and 20 minutes later barely got it started. Then it bucked and sputtered every time the gas was depressed more than an inch or so. Funny thing is I can accelerate through the gears much better if I manually switch from low to drive when leaving a light?

When in the 'hard start' mode, it feels like it is firing on only one cylinder, and then only sometimes! It can usually be started, but these episodes must be stressful all around.

If a ‘moisture’ issue is present where are the likely suspects?

Thanks,

Greg in chilly Southern Ontario
