Electrical wierdness 120-130 1966

Matt,

I'd check the generator pulley bearing.

The squeaky fan belt could be caused by the impending failure of the generator pulley bearing, causing the belt to drag on the resistant, or even momentarily stationary, pulley.

That would also possibly explain the momentary break in the current, as well, if the bearing is freezing up, momentarily

Especially if the radio shows the behavior you described when first starting up, in cold weather, (which is also when the bearing r-e-a-l-l-y squeals, indicating a bad bearing), that would be my guess.

Take the fan belt off and turn the generator pulley by hand. If it's not completely smooth, replace it.

gary
