Starting problems 200

I have had some difficulties starting my 1990 Volvo 240 (184k) since I bought it last fall. A large majority of those difficulties were resolved after I replaced the fuel pressure thing. Here's how it goes...

You turn the key to start and it cranks for about 2 seconds or so and catches. But It dies before you even let go of the key. If you continue to hold the key to start, it will never start. However, if you stop cranking and continue this process of cranking and releasing (2-4 sec. cranks and catches and dies) it starts within 10-15 secs. It has a new air filter and plugs and cap and rotor. It DOES NOT make a difference if it's hot or cold outside. It does it only after it hasn't been run for a few hours. If I drive it to Walmart and go shopping, it starts right up when I get back. Only after it sits for awhile.

It always starts, but it's kind of a headache and embarassment to have this happening all the time.

ANY advice would be great. I don't think it's the compression, the car burns no oil at all and runs strong. My 82 Volvo (250k) had the low-compression start up symptoms... but not this one

Thanks in advance for all the help.
