1992 960 Wagon Rear Main Seal Longevity 900

According to Brickboard 700/900 FAQS Volvo is selling a new improved 7mm Viton rear main seal which is supposed to last longer. The original seal was replaced on my wagon by the dealer in 1997 at 70,000 miles. Well quess what? At 140,000 miles it starts leaking again. I recently replenished 2 quarts after a 250 mile trip to Albany NY and back. I have scheduled to get it replaced next week.

Can I expect more than 70000 miles from the Viton seal or this this just another maintenance expense I must endure with the 960? My 122s, 1800s (felt seals), 144, 240 and two 740s I owned all managed 150,000 plus before I had significant rear main seal leakage. I'm wondering whether the shuddering from the sticking lockup solenoid caused a premature failure or whether we are dealing with poor design or planned obsolesence.

Of those who have replaced rear main seals on the 960 how many miles before you needed another replacement?
