Transmission very sick, this is very sad, please help. 700

744 145000miles

After spinning my wheels trying to get out of some ice.
The car made a loud whirling sound. And the transmission
would act like its not engaged, it shifts very oddly and
sometimes not at all. It would seem like its in half
neutral half drive. Cant go pass 7 mph without it totaly
giving out (full neutral). The only way to get it to go
again is to put it in park and turn off the car for about
a minute. Just putting
it in park with the engine on for a moment does not work.
all shifter positions still yeild the same whirling sound.
It sounds like its just about dead. But im still hoping
the good ol brick board can give me some advice. It may have
lost some transmission fluid according to the dip stick, but
im not entirely sure cause it was dark. What is the
damage? does anyone know

Thanks for all the help in the past, may your thoughts
and ideas be plenty this time around.

- Jay
