I've got one last item to add (lots of good advice so far). The head Volvo mechanic at my local dealership gave me a cooling system pressure cap that was blown (it vented pressure but prevented coolant from sloshing out). He advised me that if I needed to start a Volvo that had been sitting for some time, it was better that the car reached normal operating temps before any kind of pressure was put on the hoses and seals. This allows the rubber parts to regain their flexibility before any kind of stress is put on them (and hopefully avoid a burst hose or a failed pump seal).
