anyone know how to loosen up that pesky hood release? 200 1990

My 1990 240 wagon has gotten to the point where the hood release is so sluggish the hood barely opens. Then once you get it to open, it dosnt want to securely lock down when it is closed.

I make it a point to keep the latch lubed, but I'm thinking that the cable is gummed up.

Ideally, I would like to shoot a lube all the way from one end of the cable to the other.

Have any of you successfully loosened up your hood latching mechanism? If so, please advise on your method.

Thank you.
