K&N Air filter 1800

I replaced the old air filter box on my '73 1800ES with a direct manifold mounting K&N air filter from IPD about a year ago. I did his by first removing it and then cutting the box off of the pipe that attaches to the flexible pipe, and then through the wall behind the grill. I then attached the K&N to this pipe out side of the engine compartment behind the grill. Now my question, is it possible that the K&N air filter is sucking up rain as I'm driving?
