Stalling / rough idle problem. Help needed! 200 1988

Intermittent problems like this can be such a bear, because you can never duplicate it to know whether it's a fuel or ignition related problem. So you just have to go through a lot of things and hope to fix it. Go through all of the easy/free things first, which given your symptoms could mean electrical problems. There are a bunch of connectors under and around the ignition coil and power steering reservoir that could be causing your problem. Take them all apart and make sure none of the wires are coming loose and sand all the spade connectors. Take a look at your fuel pressure regulator. Take off the vacuum line going from it to the intake manifold and check the ends of the line for fraying, etc. Smell it, and if you smell gasoline in this line, replace the FPR. Also, when was the last time you replaced or resoldered the fuel pump relay? Do that for sure. If you do all of the basics like this, then it could be something more involved like a bad ICU. If you have a pick-n-pull, it might be worth it to grab the right ICU so you can swap it out in case all of the other things don't solve the problem.
