SU rebuild 444-544

Last night I got around to pulling the SUs out of the storage box. This is the first time I've actually taken a good look at them, since I bought the car in a disassembled state. I tore one of them down to parade rest and did some initial inspection. Naturally, the throttle shaft shows some wear, but the shaft bushes in carb body look pretty good. I'm thinking a new shaft would bring this back to good shape. A few questions:

1) I need a supplier of parts-any recommendations?

2) Are oversize throttle shafts vailable?

3) How does one remove the slide needle from the slide (without damaging it)? I removed the set screw but it's still tight.

4) How/where are the needles identified?

5) The float needle has a brass tip-are Viton tipped float needles available?

6) Anybody have a spare heat shield? Mine is all cracked up.

Thanks in advance for the help-appreciate your time!

Joe in St Louis
