Tank gauge reversed

Hi.

I just replaced the VDO instrument cluster (cracked PCB causing any number of weird problems) in my 1987 740GLE (60l tank) with a Yazaki one. Everything now works, except the tank gauge which has the same problem as before

The indication is reversed so that a full tank has the gauge showing about empty and an empty tank showing about two thirds full on the gauge.

Since the behavior is the same with the two instrument clusters, I must assume that it's related to either wiring or the sender unit.

Any clues?
