speedo cable questions 200

Currently I'm changing the dash in my 91 240 auto, which means getting rid of the current speedo. The replacement is a cable driven version while the current one is electronic. Is there any way the cable can be hooked up to my transmission or an adapter that allows the cable speedometer to be run as an electric version. I realize that the easy alternative is to stick with an electronic version. However I have yet to see an electronic version look the way I like which in this case is the only important criteria, also in a few months I'll be switching to an m46 anyways which needs a cable speedo. I'd just like to know how fast I'm going till then. Thanks for any answers.
