needed advice 700

I have heard the roumor that thermostats can be damaged by excessive overheating. I'm not sure i believe it as iv heated a thermostat up to 400 deg f with a tourch and then installed it in my car, its worked fine for the last 2 years (expeariment to set pollicy at my shop). If engine got extreamly hot, ie timing belt cover melted / oil smoking off of engine case, the timing belt can be damaged but they usualy break within minutes of restarting and since all b230 engines are non interfearence (at least in north america) I wouldnt worry about it. beyond that I would'nt wory about anything else.
