speedometer reads high 200

I had the insturment cluster out today in my 88 244 to put a tach in.
tach works great, but the speedo reads really high, odometer doesn't work at all.
It is electronic and there are 3 wires that clip on to a circut board and it is keyed so impossible to put it in backwards, it was stiff pulling it out and too easy putting it back on.... Is there a chance that a bad connection is causing this? should I bend the tabs on the connector to make a tighter fit?
any imput would be appreciated!
